Committee

Chairman Roger Taylor

Roger and his wife have lived in Wetherby for almost 40 years and has been a member of the WCS for ages, enjoying his involvement in the town and what is going off locally and in the area.  He is a working Notary Public, quite a rare part of the legal profession. Roger enjoys looking at villages, towns and cities and seeing how others protect their heritage

Vice Chairman Peter Catton

Peter has lived in Wetherby for 40 years. Within the Society he has organised visits and speakers and at present is deeply involved in opposing the plans to build 1,100 houses off Racecourse Approach. He is the Society’s representative on the Better Wetherby Partnership and also he is a member of the Wetherby Independents

Treasurer Angela Winterbottom

Angela has lived in Wetherby since 1976, but is a relatively new member of the Society, having joined in 2016. She helps organise the programme of visits and talks for members and is currently Treasurer.

Nic Sheppard

Nic lives in the town centre and has been in Wetherby over 20 years. Most of that time he has been a member of the Civic Society and has taken a particular interest in the guided town walks and responding to planning applications.

Mary Barnett

Mary came back to England and Yorkshire on retirement along with her husband, Alan, and settled in Wetherby in 2000. Wanting to learn more about the past, present and future plans of Wetherby she joined the Civic Society. Mary has arranged outings, speakers and more recently a lunch for members.

Julie Turner

Julie retired to Wetherby 8 years ago. Only recently joined the Civic Society to learn more about Wetherby’s history and help protect and enhance this thriving market town. Also a volunteer for Wetherby In Bloom.

Jean Chapman

Jean has lived in Wetherby for nearly 29 years and joined Wetherby Civic Society when it started and has been an active member ever since.
